Easter Treats & Baskets

Here we go!

Completed birds nests

Of course we had to lick the spoons when finished and of course we got stuff on our face!

Our finished Easter treat...delicious!

Easter basket

Yesterday Jack and I had a great time making Easter treats and putting together some Easter baskets for his cousins.  The treats I found on Pinterest, you can find the recipe here.  And we decided that since Jack loves to play in the garden and watch the birds outside that we would incooporate that into creating our Easter baskets.  Here is a list of what we put in the baskets:  Cedar birdhouse with bird seed, gardening gloves, a spade, pansy plants, lettuce plants, and we couldn't forget the peas (those are Jacks favorite!), a windup bunny, a bug viewer (Jack has been enjoying catching bugs lately), and of course we will be adding some plastic eggs with goodies and our bird nests we made!  What kind of Easter baskets have you done?

Little Gardener

Planting our first flowers of the year in our hanging baskets was particularly fun for Jack this year as he was able to use some Jack sized gardening tools he received as a gift!  Its definitely starting to feel like spring around here!

Sunshine= productive day outside!

Big chickens!
Onions planted...check!

Chicks getting some sun...check!
Other indoor plants getting some sun too!
Our little adventurer
Nothing like a fire and marshmallow roasting to finish off a great day!

A couple weeks ago we enjoyed a couple of nice days...and well you know what that means.  Working outside!  Our greenhouse is finally, mostly finished and up and running, I will post some pics later of our plants in there!  But it was time to let our chicks get some air and also plant my seeds for the garden and baskets! We finished off our very productive day outside with a backyard fire and some marshmallow roasting...perfect!

Homegrown goodness!

As you can see below our chickens have really started to up their production! We are averaging about 4 eggs a day. Three of these are layed in the coop, the 4th is layed in our firepit by our one Rhodie red who likes to escape the coop despite me trimming her flight feathers! After about a month of small eggs we are finally getting some "regular" sized eggs! Jack gets very excited when its time to collect!

Lets Go Green

Is that not the coolest wall you've ever seen!!!!!! I love it. This past weekend we spent some time in downtown Portland and found some really unique decorating ideas using some very uncommon things. Wooden pallets, is all I will say about that until I have finished that project but its in the works and I love how unconventional it is! Anyhoo, this plant wall just might be another idea to incorporate into my eclectic decorating scheme! Happy Thursday!

Beckoning Spring

I love fresh flowers. There is just something about them that brightens a room and brings nature to you in a presonal way. With spring just around the corner the options are getting even better! Here are some awesome ideas for decorating with flowers and plants that I just couldn't resist sharing. I wish I was brave enough to have an all white room, but with Jack and Justin that just isn't in the cards!

Don't you just love the bucket on the stairs?! I'm so excited to start a flower garden this year and have fresh flowers all summer long!

Let it begin

Summer has finally arrived, and with it sunshine and gardening. Currently I have about 5 Sweet Basil plants, 3 Lemon basil, a couple Cilantro, Mint, and some Mesclun Salad mix, along with a myriad of flower starts on my back porch. Next year we will have an actual, huge, I got lost in the corn garden. So big in fact that I may have to declare it a community garden just to get some help in it! My husband loves gardening and has shared that love with me and I must say I'm hooked. I hope to instill that love in our son someday. But in the meantime I'm saving up some great ideas for gardening with your kids. Here is one of my favorites from Ohdeedoh a great website I am absolutely in love with!
